Art
Art is a foundation subject of the National Curriculum and an important part of developing our children’s ability to develop their individual creativity, express their ideas and understanding and to work both individually and collaboratively with others. Our aim is to ensure that children are confident approaching artwork, feel a strong sense of achievement, value the impact of art within our own lives and are able to reach their full potential.” National Curriculum 2014
Intent
At Emerson Valley School, we value Art as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Our art curriculum aims to develop and extend artistic skills nspiring awe wonder and a sense of ‘can do’ in all our pupils. We use Kapow for our resources and planning.
Implementation
Our curriculum is designed to develop artistic skills by using a sketchbook for observations and practice, experimenting with various materials like pencil, charcoal, paint, and clay. Children express ideas through drawing, painting, and sculpture while exploring techniques in colour, pattern, texture, and form. They study and compare different artists, craft makers, and designers, making connections to their personal work. Children will do Art in three half terms across the school year.
Impact
Children develop into confident artists, with a good understanding of the different skills within art and famous artists. Using the progression map, each year children will build on their knowledge and skills as they move through school. This will be assessed by teachers each term.
