Science
“A high-quality science education lays the foundation for understanding the world through biology, chemistry, and physics. Science is crucial for progress and prosperity, so students should learn key knowledge, methods, and applications. Science education helps students explain events, predict behaviors, and analyse causes.” National Curriculum 2014
Intent
Science at Emerson Valley School encourages children to make the links to the world around them and explore new concepts. Children’s thinking is broadened by open-ended questions, opportunities to talk about their learning and engaging in practical activities. Pupil’s knowledge, skills, understanding and vocabulary will develop and progress throughout their time at Emerson Valley School.
Implementation
Science at EVS is taught through a topic-based curriculum with structured lessons that ensure progression and depth. Students communicate their scientific knowledge using various methods such as writing, diagrams, graphs, and ICT. Classrooms feature up-to- date science displays, and children are encouraged to handle materials safely. The school fosters enthusiasm for science through an annual Science Week, multiple concept weeks, and educational experiences to enhance learning.
Impact
Our Science Curriculum is thoughtfully designed to ensure progression in scientific skills and knowledge, making learning fun, engaging, and inspiring. Through lessons, workshops, trips, and expert interactions, children understand science's impact on our lives and its importance for the future. We assess its effectiveness through pupil feedback, using their curiosity and enjoyment to refine the curriculum.
