Year 4
Year 4 is an exciting year for your children; it is full of wonderful learning opportunities. We aim to make your children independent, confident and responsible learners. In Year 4, we expect them to follow the school’s behaviour policy and for them to show respect to others, the school and most importantly, themselves. We are looking forward to the year ahead working with you and your children.

Homework
Homework is set every half term. The children will receive 9 tasks. The aim is to complete a task a week. Some of these tasks are set on Mirodo for English and Maths. The others are practical tasks for your child to complete. We ask that these practical tasks are brought in on the last week of the half term they are set so your child can share them with their peers.
Alongside this, we will send out termly spellings for your children to learn. These will be covered in school but not formally tested as we would expect them to be spelt correctly in their writing lessons.
Reading records and AR
Children are expected to read at least 4 times a week at home and record it in their reading records. Every week, their reading records will be checked by their class teacher. As the children are now in Year 4 they can take responsibility to write in their reading records themselves. However, it would be fantastic if you could listen to your child read or share a book with your child and record this in their reading records. Taking the time to read with your children on a regular basis sends an important message: Reading is worthwhile.
TT Rockstars
By the time children reach Year 4, they should know the x2, x3, x4, x5, x8, x10 tables. In Year 4 our focus is to complete the times tables to x12 and related division facts. It is important that they learn their times tables and are confident with them in order to succeed and progress in maths lessons. Children are expected to spend at least 10 minutes on TT Rockstars every day, completing 2 sound checks and then games of their choice. At the end of Year 4 there is a statutory test based on all of the times tables. The children will be given regular opportunities to practise this.
P.E. days
Year 4 have the opportunity across the Autumn and Spring terms to go swimming as part of their P.E. lessons. When it is your child’s turn, you will receive information by Parentmail. All of Year 4 have P.E. on a Monday afternoon, the second P.E. session will be on a Wednesday or Friday but you will be given notification of this by Parentmail.
Children must come to school in their P.E. kit which they will wear all day on their P.E. daus.
If your child has a sports club after school and it is not their P.E. day, they must wear school uniform and bring a kit to change into.
